MY DRAMATIC PANDEMIC PREGNANCY (pt. 2)

By: Janet, Washington, DC

It was finally October 15, 2020 but my mom was not coming (See part 1) We were so sad! I called the airline and talked to them, they didn’t understand what went wrong, the pandemic created a lot of new travel restrictions that no one was aware of. We ended up booking a new ticket for my mom, we had to pay more money, but hey, anything to get my mom here. I’m about to become a mom and I don’t even know how to change a diaper or properly hold a baby, I needed my mom to teach me EVERYTHING.

The next day, October 16 my mom went back to the airport and was once again denied to board the plane. However, this time airport staff explained what was going on better. Apparently, since the US closed its borders to everyone, other than U.S. residents or citizens, everyone else requires special approval from the respective embassy. We knew this, my mom had special approval, but it seemed as if the embassy did not upload it to the database. It wasn't possible to contact the embassy, so my mom had to go back home. Such a disappointment, for both of us.

We spoke to the embassy on Monday and asked them to reupload the approval and finally my mom was allowed to come on  Wednesday October 22! We were so relieved! It cost a lot of money but she was finally coming. And just our luck, upon her arrival her suitcase broke... So we had to go through all of the hassle to get her a new suitcase from the airline. I am happy to say that she received a very nice new suitcase from them.

Anyways, mom was here, we enjoyed our time together just the two of us... We went swimming, walking, had great conservations just like old times. We even scheduled a mani/pedi for the morning of my due date, but when I woke up, I had some blood in my underwear. Ok I have to be honest, I was wearing diapers 😂, because you never know when your water is going to break, right??  And I  was not going to mess up my bed/pjs/outfit. So I just started to wear Always Discreet Boutique...

So there was a little bit of blood in my diaper, I wasn’t in pain or anything, but I decided to call my OB/GYN. She wanted me to come to the hospital and check me out. So there I went with my suitcase in hand... Due to Corona measures, I was only allowed to bring one person with me, my husband, unfortunately my mom had to stay home...

At the hospital, they tested me for corona first. 2 weeks before my due date, the OB/GYN advised that I quarantined. It took a while for the results to come back - but I tested negative (of course). The doctor on call checked me out and said nothing was happening and she recommended me to go home, however, I needed to make an ultrasound before I left to check the amniotic fluid levels. While I was getting my ultrasound done, it seemed as if I was urinating. After some hours my OB/GYN came, she checked me out and said that I had a rupture. They had to induce me that night. At around 8:00 pm I was induced, at 10:30 pm I received my epidural (I did not want to feel any pain). My husband was in the room, but with little support, he was sleeping most of the time, which annoyed me! Finally the baby was born at 5:37 am the next day, October 26.

After she was born and they ran all of the tests, we we're escorted to our room for the next two days. But I had class that afternoon at 12:00 pm, so blissfully in love with my baby, I took a short nap and attended class at 12:30 pm via zoom.

I hear crying, gotta run!
